Quick answer: on a single garage door (about 8–9 ft wide), a 3x6 or 4x8 fits with room around it. On a double garage door (about 16 ft wide), choose a 3x12 or 4x12. For a storefront, measure the wall or sign area; a 3x6 fits most shop fronts, and a long, narrow 2x10 or 3x12 fits above a door or window.
Garage Door Banner Sizes
| Garage door | Typical size | Banner sizes that fit |
|---|---|---|
| Single | About 8–9 ft wide, 7 ft high | 3x6, 4x8, 5x8 |
| Double | About 16 ft wide, 7 ft high | 3x12, 4x12, 4x14 |
Door sizes vary. Measure your door and leave at least 6 inches on each side.
Garage door banners are popular for graduations, birthdays, welcome-home celebrations, and yard sales, where the garage faces the street and everyone driving by can see it.

Which Size Reads From the Street?
A banner’s height decides how big your letters can be, and that decides how far away people can read it:
- 3 ft high (3x6, 3x12): headline letters about 9 in tall, readable from about 90 ft.
- 4 ft high (4x8, 4x12): letters about 12 in tall, readable from about 120 ft.
- 5 ft high (5x8, 5x10): letters about 15 in tall, readable from about 150 ft.
If your banner needs to catch drivers on a busy road, go taller. Check your design with the letter height calculator.
How to Hang a Banner on a Garage Door
- Hang it from the trim above the door, not the door itself, so you can still open the garage. Screw hooks into the trim and hang the banner by its top grommets.
- Steel doors: heavy-duty magnetic hooks hold a banner without any holes; add one at each grommet along the top.
- Take it down before opening the door. A banner attached to the door panels will bend or tear when the door rolls up.
How to Hang a Banner on a Storefront
- On a wall or sign band: screw hooks or anchors into the wall and hang the banner by its grommets.
- Under an awning: zip-tie the grommets to the awning frame.
- Check local rules. Some cities limit the size of temporary banners or how long they can stay up, so ask your city or landlord before you hang it.

Storefront and Garage Door Banner FAQ
What size banner fits a garage door?
A 3x6 or 4x8 on a single door, and a 3x12 or 4x12 on a double door.
What size banner is best for a storefront?
A 3x6 fits most shop fronts. For the space above a door or windows, a long, narrow 2x10 or 3x12 fits better.
Can I hang a banner on my garage door without drilling?
Yes. On steel doors, heavy-duty magnetic hooks work well. On other doors, hang it from the trim above instead of the door itself.
Can a storefront banner go in the window?
Yes, facing out, hung from the top with suction-cup hooks through the grommets. Our banners aren’t see-through, so it will block the view through that part of the window.
